Children get into golf in Wandsworth this half-term
13th Feb 2015
What better way to spend the half-term break than getting fresh air and exercise whilst learning something new at one of CLGC’s holiday camps? Offering an array of skills challenges and fun competitions, the well-established half-term golf camps are for children of all levels, from beginners to improving players. Designed to develop the child’s enjoyment and ability under professional supervision, these camps are the perfect holiday activity.
Golf is under scrutiny at the moment, not least owing to a decline in the uptake of the sport, although popularity as a spectator sport remains high, as witnessed by Sky winning the rights to show the Open Championship.
Top players such as Rory McIlroy have called for changes to the way the game is played, such as shorter games, in a bid to attract new people to the sport. New styles – such as Tri Golf and street golf – are emerging and are specifically targeted at younger players. While juniors are the fastest growing group of new players, CLGC also introduced 300 adult beginners to golf in 2014.
Women’s golf is the fastest growing adult segment, particularly in the over 50s age range. Speaking of the latest participation figures, Michael Anscomb from CLGC said: “Whatever people are saying about the state of golf today, we’re certainly witnessing a strong uplift here in South London. We’re sure some of this is down to the McIlroy effect but we also believe the sport is an attractive proposition for young people thanks to the new styles of play being offered at centres like ours.” For more information about half-term camps please contact Central London Golf Centre on 020 8871 2468. There are a limited number of places still available in the half-term camps.
